The airport in Riyadh has five terminals, with terminals 1 and 2 utilised for international travel and terminal 5 used by domestic airlines. While Terminal 4 has not been in use since the airport’s completion in 1983, Terminal 3 previously served as a hub for domestic aircraft before ceasing operations. the beginning of the terminals’ operations following the conclusion of the required expansion projects.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) Chairman of the Board of Directors, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, and GACA President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej welcomed the Emir when he arrived at the location.
The upgraded terminals’ facilities and high-tech equipment were then highlighted during Prince Faisal’s tour of them. “Our is what we see before us tangible, which is the gracious gift of this state to its children,” the Emir said in a speech during the event. King Salman, Crown Prince, and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, as Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, observe these accomplishments with appreciation and consideration, he added, stressing the efforts of all parties and the necessity to continue collaboration in order to reach the goal.
Al-Jasser, the minister of transportation and logistics, claimed in his address that the opening of the two terminals will encourage international travel, which starts at the same time as the FIFA World Cup. In addition to empowering the tourism and economic sectors, he noted that increasing the capacity in the Kingdom’s airports and enhancing the passenger experience are the goals of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. “The growing prominence of Riyadh as a global hub would also contribute to the growth of the travel industry,” he said.
For his part, GACA President Al-Duailej stated that the addition of terminals 3 and 4 to the airport’s infrastructure will be crucial in enabling the facility to handle 13 million people yearly. According to a comprehensive plan, “this extension represents the beginning of other expansions and future enhancements for the airport of the capital city,” he stated.
